Acupuncture treatment is a form of ancient Chinese medicine whose origins can be traced back for over 8000 years. Acupuncture treatment is based on Taoist spiritual philosophies, which believe that our life force is comprised of a constant flow of spiritual energy called qi (chee), and that humans can naturally heal themselves by properly channeling this energy. Acupuncture is accomplished by inserting specially designed hollow needles into specific points of the body which results in benefiting and healing effects. Acupuncture is frequently used for pain reduction, treatment for chronic fatigue and is even used to battle substance addiction.

The West was introduced to Acupuncture in the early twentieth century, and Acupuncture techniques have been becoming more and more popular since then. The Acupuncture fan following began in France and then gained popularity in Western Europe. In the United States, Acupuncture became popular after President Nixon’s state visit to China in the 1970’s.

Arthritis is one of the illnesses that respond well to acupuncture treatment. Traditional treatments for arthritis involve the use of pain medications, but these have many side effects and can also be addictive. Acupuncture uses needles that theoretically release blockages in the qi energy in the body, thus relieving the problems caused by such blockages. The pain of arthritis is apparently one of the ills caused by these interruptions in energy flow and many sufferers have found natural, non-drug relief of their symptoms.

Acupuncture is a proven technique to treat chronic fatigue. This is achieved by the opening of the flow of qi energy, thereby creating a positive energy field through and around the body. This revitalizing and re-invigorating energy can then be tapped by the patient to recover from symptoms of chronic fatigue.

Acupuncture has also been utilised successfully as a treatment for addictions. It has been shown to be efficacious in assisting smokers to stop smoking, alcoholics to renounce alcohol and has even helped heroin addicts. This is attributed to the change in qi energy induced by acupuncture resulting in small changes to the brain chemistry of the addicts, which has an influence upon their addictive behaviours.

The current popularity of acupuncture techniques, suggests that it will remain a preferred natural treatment for addiction, fatigue and pain. In my opinion, acupuncture is a miracle treatment, with almost no side effects, which will continue to remain popular in the coming years.
