The shift in thinking in people the world over about exercise is getting more oriented towards the psychological benefits than the physical benefits. Both in the developed as well as developing world, people have started giving more weight age to how good they feel after an exercise than how good their physique would become by following an exercise regime. Yes, an exercise regime does tone up your entire physique, making you look more physically younger and trim. However, there has been a general awareness among the masses about the importance of how younger and trim they would feel in their minds. The younger you feel in the mind, the better it reflects in your physique too, and an empirical truth that people across the world have started realizing about.
As owner of The Personal Trainer Orange County I see a competitive world out there and one and all of us are coping with extreme stress and strain, day in and day out. Hence, an opinion with respect to health and fitness that has been sweeping the world over has been that it is more important to ease out on the emotional stress and strain first. Physical fitness, easing out of physical stress and strain, better sleeping patterns, confidence etc would follow suit automatically. Numerous proofs of reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression due to implementation of regular exercise regimes have been provided by psychiatrists in recent years. Physical disorders such as increased heart beat rates, higher blood pressure and cortisol levels have been proved to drastically reduce in an average individual by following a regular physical exercise pattern.
Recent researches published by the ACSM have clearly revealed that the children’s psyche too gets a big boost by following regular exercise regimes. At my Personal Trainer Irvine facility I see kids who are constantly physically active perform better at school. Their academic grades are constantly high than the kids who do not have a physically active lifestyle pattern. Experts have thus attributed better academic performance in children mainly due to their physically active lifestyles. The research has also attributed the negative social qualities in children such as premarital sex, drinking and smoking etc. to more of their not-so-physically active lifestyle patterns. The research has further re-iterated that for older adults, a regular exercise regime proves to be more of a self-fulfilling experience that drastically boosts their physical confidence. More so in older adults, there has been a general attitude among some of them about not following an exercise regime simply because they feel that they are not capable of exercising. This is more of a state of mind than anything else. It is here that the health and fitness experts need to play a bigger psychiatric role in trying to imbibe a feeling confidence in their clients about age not being a factor to follow an exercise regime. Occurrence of disorders and diseases attributed to an individual’s psyche such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is greatly reduced in individuals who follow a regular exercise pattern.
Psychiatrists also recommend that exercise and fitness experts emphasise more on such psychological benefits of following an exercise pattern to their clients. Being a Long Beach personal trainer I see it is often a tendency among individuals who start off with an exercise pattern to feel totally down if they do not find a notable improvement in weight-reduction, just after a few days of starting of their exercise regime. It is at this point that the health and fitness expert can chip-in with a few use inputs on how better they have started feeling and how better their sleeping patterns have become as well as how better their energy level would have improved. They would have to emphasise on these positive improvements in their clients and also re-iterate that their stint towards good health and a trim physique has just started off and that they are going great guns within a short period of time.
