Many opportunities arise almost daily to help instruct others about eye care and eye wear. For example, every day, someone in the world seeks treatment for blurred vision. Then information is needed to tell the person about eye care, eye strain and appropriate eye wear and / or treatment solutions.

Teaching is needed in formal school settings for students of all ages round the world to tell about conditions like astigmatism, presbyopia, and myopia and all types of other eye-related issues. Plus teaching is needed one-on-one as people age, have eye accidents and even realize vision needs corrected for a loved one, neighbor or other person, along with a host of other reasons and situations.

To help teach others, here are some tips:

1) To help teach, use online and offline aids. For example, make a PowerPoint presentation and include images of different types of eyeglasses, contact lenses, and reading glasses to demonstrate how frames – and lenses – have evolved over time so that people can see the development of thin, leather-weight lenses from old coke-bottle lenses, as well as stylish designer frames now instead of old cat eyes.

2) Be creative and use video clips where you can with free video software you can find online by searching for “free video software” in Google. For example, show people wearing colored contact lenses that change their eye colors form one frame to the next. And show how easy it is to insert and take out the lenses. One site to search is CNET.com where they share free download links.

3) Contact your local community college or other advanced educational facility and find out what courses they offer. You could sign up for a course in PowerPoint and learn how to create presentations. You could take a speaking class then host workshops about eye care and eye wear, online and off. Bring some funky eyeglass frames from manufacturers like EyeBobs to display how functional and fashionable eyeglasses can be.

4) Learn how to use Skype online for chats, to send files, to interview and more. Then use this as a learning tool. The software is free and some features are also free. Those that aren’t, are cheap. Pick up a microphone / headphones set at eBay or Amazon.

5) Learn how to create your own products and package your training to give or sell to your students. You can write your lessons in Word, then convert them to Adobe PDF format, and load into CafePress.com or LuLu.com where they can both send out your data via CDs, workbooks, print books and via other formats. Depending on your age group, include a simple pair of reading glasses to show them how much these simple devices help. Include some information regarding why and how the glasses are improving their vision.

Cross promote your items on eBay and Amazon, reaching out for a greater audience and more income, while you’re at it. Seek help from popular internet marketing forums as needed, searching, “internet marketing forum” in Google or other popular search engine.

6) Learn about many more ways to promote your educational materials with help from the Small Business Administration (sba.gov). There are hundreds of ways like:

-    Sending postcards to interested students and people who are concerned about their eyes
-    Hosting table space at local trade shows
-    Writing articles and press releases about eye care and eye wear and submitting them to online article and press release directories and offline publishers and media.

Teaching other about proper eye care is an extremely rewarding way to give back to the community. The popular eyeglass company Scojo got their start by donating time, expertise, education and eyeglasses to third world countries. There are number of ways you can help and potentially save the eyesight of a friend, family member, or even a complete stranger. Eye health is an often overlooked, but very important part of our daily lives.
